A copy of the tentative budget will be available for review by the public, at the office of the Village Clerk and online at www.brewstervillage-ny.gov five (5) days prior to the public hearing.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, that the Board of Trustees of the VILLAGE OF BREWSTER will hold a SPECIAL MEETING on WEDNESDAY APRIL 29, 2020, 7:30 P.M. virtually through Zoom, the Meeting ID is 207 812 8623 and the phone number to call in to is 1-929-205-6099, to approve the 2020-2021 Budget as proposed by the Board of Trustees and any other business that needs to be addressed. A copy of the budget will be available online at www.brewstervillage-ny.gov the following day. An agenda for this meeting will be posted on the Village website by April 28, 2020.

What is it that makes the water turn orange when they flush the hydrant?
Minerals – Primarily Iron & Manganese The Village of Brewster supply source is ground water drawn from five sand and gravel wells. The semiannual hydrant flushing purges the system of the accumulated settlement of these minerals suspended in the ground water. Opening the hydrants and increasing the water flow causes the disturbance of this settlement so that it may be flushed from the system. Does running the tap water make it clear up faster? No. To the contrary, running the water prolongs the turbulence in the system. The best thing to do is use as little water as possible for 12 to 24 hours so the system has a chance to settle out and clear. Why does my toilet run after hydrant flushing? Sometimes tiny particulate gets caught under the flush valve seal in the toilet holding tank preventing it from sealing tightly. The same can be true for washers and aerators (strainers) in faucets. Make sure your faucets and toilets are not leaking and are unobstructed after hydrant flushing. If you have strainers on washer supply hoses you should also check them but refraining from doing laundry for a 24 to 48 hour period from April 15th is recommended.

Last night at the Village of Brewster Board of Trustees meeting, Mayor Schoenig motioned to extend the Refuse bill out 2 weeks so those who still need to pay their refuse bills can do so without penalty until April 15, 2020. The Board is also extending the budget billing period so if you would like to join the budget billing schedule for refuse, you may do so until April 15th. You will be required to pay for January, February, and March at that time, which will be $75 per unit. ($25 per month per unit for 3 months) and the April refuse bill will be mailed out on or about April 15th. The motion was seconded by Trustee Boissonnault and the motion passed 5 to 0. If you would like to join the monthly refuse billing schedule, please call our office during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, 845-279-3760 or email mchiudina@brewstervillage-ny,gov with your account number and/or Village address.
DO NOT call the health department regarding this testing event. Staff will call you on Monday, April 6 if you meet the criteria for testing. We must keep the phone lines open for other COVID-19 questions and guidance.

The Public Hearing to be held on March 18, 2020 at 50 Main Street, at 7:30 pm, will continue as scheduled. Those who feel sick or uncomfortable attending may send in their comments pertaining to the public hearing and they will be read by the Board of Trustees for consideration.
In order to ensure the safety of the employees of the Village of Brewster against the COVID-19 virus, we ask that those paying utility bills, parking permit fees, building permit fees and all other payments be sent in the mail or may be done over the phone with a credit card. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Board of Trustees of the Village of Brewster will hold a public hearing on March 18, 2020 at 7:30 p.m., or as soon thereafter as time permits, at the Village Hall, 50 Main Street, Brewster, New York 10509, pursuant to Sections 257-53 and 257-63 of the Village Code, for the purpose of hearing the public with regard to a proposed increase in water rents for Village residents and consumers outside the boundaries of the Village. Proposed rates are on file in the office of the Village Clerk and available for inspection.
