Thank You Essential Businesses

As businesses are slowly starting to be able to open their doors again, the Village of Brewster would like to extend a thank you to all of the businesses who were considered essential and were asked to stay open during this time. The Board of Trustees is asking the public to nominate businesses in the Village who have supported their community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. These businesses may have donated food to those in need or were complying with social distancing rules and staying open to serve the public. We will be honoring these businesses at the July 15th Board of Trustee meeting with proclamations, and posting the list on our website. Please contact the Village Clerk, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call the Village office, 845-279-3760 with the name of the business you'd like to nominate and please do so before July 13th.

Village Office Reopening

Starting June 1, 2020 the Village Office will be reopening the doors and allowing one person in the vestibule at a time to conduct their business. If you see someone in the vestibule please wait outside or in your vehicle until that person leaves the vestibule. We ask patrons stay six feet apart at all times and wear a mask when entering the building. If you would like to review a building department file on a property within the Village of Brewster, please contact our office at least 2 hours ahead of time, via email to the Village Clerk, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone call, 845-279-3760, to allow the office to prepare for your arrival and be as socially distant as possible. The Court window will not be open.

During the month of June, the court staff will be rescheduling those who had their court date postponed due to the COVID-19 shut down. You will receive a letter in the mail prior to your new court date with important information regarding the new court procedures. After June 1st you will be able to reach the court office but please be patient as there are many court dates to reschedule and there are still limited number of people in the office. If you do not receive a letter by July 1, 2020, please send a letter to the Village Court Offices at 50 Main Street Brewster, NY 10509 or call 845-279-4020 to ensure the office has your correct information.

When Court resumes on or after July, 2020, our police officers and staff will be ensuring the safety of all throughout the Court process. Only one person will be allowed in the vestibule at a time and your temperature will be taken with a forehead scanner, then you will be subject to a search of yourself and any bags you have brought with you. If you do not want your temperature to be taken, you will not be allowed to enter the court room. You must provide your own mask to enter the Court room or you will be asked to leave. Those who are waiting to enter the Court house must wait outside and be socially distant from the other patrons who are waiting to enter. Please follow the directions of the police officers and be patient as this is something new for everyone involved.

If you are trying to conduct business with the Village Offices on a day when Court is in session, please call the Village Office at 845-279-3760 and await further instructions.

The Village of Brewster thanks you for your cooperation and appreciates your patience while we adjust to the new normal during this time. If you have any questions about procedures for the Village Court, please call 845-279-4020. If you have any questions regarding the new procedures for the Village Offices, please call 845-279-3760.

Earth Day 2020

The Town of Southeast and the Village of Brewster have continued the tradition of Earth Day with a road side clean up but were unable to hold the festivities we normally do this year due to COVID-19.

If you would like to continue the tradition of Earth Day and pick up roadside litter please contact us. We are planning to make bags, gloves and vests available to individuals and groups for use through May 16-17 weekend. Please note that there is a limited supply of gloves & vests. We have plenty of bags.

Please call Supervisor Hay at 845-279-5345 to make an appointment to pick up the bags from Town Hall at 1360 Route 22. We will need to know your name, email address & phone number, the road(s) that you intend to clean up, and the number of bags that you think you will need.

If you do decide to participate, please be very careful, wear gloves and a mask, do not congregate in groups, and practice safe distancing from others. Please wear protective clothing. Please arm yourself against tick bites.”

Thank you,

Michelle
